Skilled Laborer- Non-Ferrous Metal Worker

Summary:
The production laborer position is responsible for sorting, processing, and handling non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, and other recyclable materials. The role supports the efficient recovery and preparation of metals for resale or recycling while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. Performs cleanup activities on a routine basis. Performs other duties as directed by management.
Essential Job Functions:
- Sort incoming scrap metal into ferrous and non-ferrous categories.
- Identify and separate non-ferrous metals (copper, aluminum, brass, stainless, etc.).
- Remove contaminants such as plastic, rubber, wood, or steel attachments.
- Operate hand tools, grinders, shears, or small cutting equipment when needed.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks, containers, and bins.
- Operate forklifts and skid steers when trained and assigned.
- Weigh, tag, and stage materials for processing or shipment.
- Feed processed material into balers, or shearing equipment.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in the yard and processing facility.
- General labor duties that may include but not limited to sweeping, shoveling and general clean-up of any area and/or equipment throughout the yard.
- Willing to cross-train in other positions and assist other employees as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous experience in scrap, recycling, warehouse, or scale operations is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of non-ferrous metals and grading (or willingness to learn).
- Strong math and computer skills.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in an outdoor/industrial environment in varying weather conditions.
Work Hours:
- Monday through Friday with a 40+ hour work week. Saturdays and overtime will be required to facilitate business and production needs.
