Summary:
The Non-Ferrous Laborer will grade, purchase, and sort all types of copper, aluminum, brass, steel, etc. This fast-paced role requires efficient multi-tasking to handle customers at a number of platform and truck scales. This position will prepare cars to be processed through the Shredder. Operate equipment and machines as needed for production. A high level of customer service and a willingness to learn about various metals and their value are a must.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Weigh incoming material brought in by customers.
  • Sort incoming material into appropriate bins.
  • Disassembles tires.
  • Prepares cars to be processed (i.e. drain the oil tanks, remove aluminum rims and catalytic convertors, etc).
  • Operate varies pieces of equipment, i.e. alligator shear, tow motor, bobcat skid steer.
  • Ensures a safe work environment for self and others at all times.
  • Supplies production facility and/or stockpiles raw feed or finished products.
  • Keeps yard clean, well-organized and safe.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out simple one or two-step instructions.
  • Informing/communication with the Yard personnel.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Industry experience in scrap, metal preferred.
  • Ability to work inside or outside as required.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills; must be willing to cross-train on other equipment.

Work Hours:
  • Monday through Friday, 40+ hour work week, Saturdays, and overtime required as needed.

About Metalico
Metalico is a leading full-service, broadly diversified scrap metal recycler, principally operating in the Northeastern United States. Our scrap operations source, buy, process, and sell four distinct groups of commodity metals for use in the manufacture of new products: +We recycle scrap steel and iron, which is sold primarily to domestic mills and foundries. +We recycle non-ferrous metals, principally aluminum, copper, lead, and nickel-based steel and high temperature alloys.
